Bulk soil, mulch and compost volume

Turn an area and a spread depth into a volume in cubic metres and litres, then see the bulk delivery and bag counts rounded up to what a supplier would actually sell.

Units: Square metres in, cubic metres and litres out, millimetres for depth.

Inputs: Area (m²), depth (mm), optional bag size (L).

Method: Volume = area × depth ÷ 1000, so 2 m² at 25 mm is 0.05 m³ (50 L). Bulk orders round up to the nearest 0.25 m³; bags round up to whole bags.

Your measurements

Metric inputs, worked out for soil, mulch or compost. Australian suppliers sell bulk by the cubic metre and bagged by the litre, so both are shown.

For example, a bed 2 m long by 1 m wide.

Unit: square metres (m²)

Spread depth in millimetres. 25 mm is a common top-dressing depth.

Unit: millimetres (mm)

Leave as 25 L for a small bed, or clear the field to compare 25 L and 50 L bags.

Unit: litres (L)
